Serving our Community

Supporting those around us, particularly those in need, is an important part of school life at Oratory Primary School. Our children are encouraged to respond creatively and thoughtfully to local, national and global need and are taught that these actions are a direct response to God’s Word.

Each year we support three charities:

• The Catholic Children’s Society, whose mission is to bring hope and change to children and families living in poverty, as well as those experiencing emotional and psychological distress. They seek to address material, relational and spiritual poverty. They help children overcome disadvantage, achieve their full potential and have better chances in life.

• Glass Door Homeless Charity, who coordinate the UK’s largest open-access network of emergency winter shelters and support services for men and women affected by homelessness. Their vision is a world where no one has to sleep on the streets of London; they believe everyone has inherent dignity and welcome those who turn to them as guests. By partnering with churches and community centres to provide shelter and support, Glass Door is committed to supporting people get—and stay—off the street.

• Our School Council vote to choose the third charity each year, and this is often linked to something in the news, a concern of a fellow pupil, or a local event. The children decide how to raise money and have thought of some excellent ideas such as a talent show, pyjama day and danceathon. Recipients in recent years include London Air Ambulance, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and Cris Cancer Foundation.
